Project Background
Barangaroo Station forms part of Sydney Metro, Australia’s largest public transport infrastructure project, delivering a network of metro lines, stations, and underground rail connections across Greater Sydney.
The Challenge
The Barangaroo Station design presented several complex waterproofing challenges, including the requirement for a double-layer waterproofing system, accommodating structural movement of up to 90mm between adjoining cavern structures, and achieving reliable waterproofing connections to both in-ground strand anchors and headwall tension anchors. Each of these interfaces required a fully sealed solution capable of maintaining long-term performance under movement and hydrostatic pressure.

The Bluey Solution
Bluey Technologies was engaged during the design phase to develop and deliver tailored waterproofing solutions to meet the project’s specific requirements. A compartmentalised double-layer waterproofing system was developed, with the secondary membrane installed between water stop-defined zones. A bespoke testing methodology was implemented to allow each weld to be quality assured and verified. To accommodate structural movement of up to 90mm, Bluey designed a sliding support system using BluSeal AKS, enabling the membrane to remain supported under hydrostatic pressure while allowing controlled movement between structures. For both strand anchors and headwall tension anchors, Bluey engineered a fully welded solution, allowing the VLDPE membrane to be directly welded to HDPE sheathing. This eliminated reliance on epoxy-based terminations, improving durability and long-term performance under load. Bluey delivered the project as a full supply and install solution, ensuring alignment between design intent and onsite execution.
